Creative Paths to Freedom announces new membership with the International Travel Writers Alliance. Officially carrying the membership press card is a privilege. I am proud to display their logo on my website. It is the world’s largest organisation of professional travel writers, editors, broadcasters and photographers. Based in London, the Alliance offers those in the travel industry the following:

  • Key information for professionals who travel to write, broadcast or create images.
  • a means to establish links between their members and publishing editors as well as forge relationships with a wide range of travel industry partners and agencies.

I will be carrying the press card with me on my upcoming trip to Spain. While studying Spanish at the Malaca Instituto in Malaga, Spain, I will write about the experience for various websites as well as my own blog.  If you have ever thought about formally studying a language, follow my six-week adventure as I attempt to take my second language skills to the next level by making a commitment to live on campus and report to class each day. My street Spanish should improve immensely. I will also be spending time in the beautiful coastal town of Torre Del Mar, the mountain village of Competa and the glorious city of Granada.

  1. I was thinking about applying for the card. Can you let me know what exactly the card gives you?

    • There are a number of advantages to being a member. You will receive a press card which you can show to other people in the travel industry as a form of validation that you are part of the organization, which I think carries some clout. So let’s say that you would like to write about a particular hotel that you are staying at during your travels. You can show them the press card and often negotiate a better deal for yourself. They can also verify that you are who you say you are by calling the organization. The organization is wiling to call ahead to vouch for you as well. They serve as the go between for travel-industry businesses and writers and photographers, bringing the two together with mutually shared interests.

      • That sounds really good! I think it’s too late to apply now, but I will do after I come back from my travels.

        • Let me know how it goes!
